I love this picture of my mother as a small girl. Her family lived in St Paul, not far from the Capital, but they still had work horses and a barn for her grandfathers work horses behind the house.
She said she was not allowed in the barn area,
She lived in this house on Winter St until she gort married to my father, and her father before her grew up in this house that his father built.
After though....
I am adding 2 pictures of the house now, even though it is no longer in our family, a family member took a picture of it in 94, when he was back in St Paul.

How cool is that!!!
ReplyDeleteA very special family image - thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteYou are so fortunate to have these lovely old family photos. I have very few. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteLovely photo. What is she holding?
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome photo! There is so much going on here. How neat that the family home was in the family for so many generations.

So many memories in a family homeplace - makes it difficult when the house falls into disrepair or no one is left who wants to carry on.
ReplyDeleteOops -- don't mean to imply it IS in disrepair. I mean that it is always hard IF a house gets run down when it's been in the family through many generations. This house looks great.
DeleteDon't worry, when I read that I thought I should of included the recent pictures as well at first and decided to add them. As really it could of been like many others from that era...and be long gone and replaced. I am happy to know it has survived as well.

Beautiful family memories. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I have been back to see a couple childhood houses and it is a pretty cool experience.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see you blogging again!! Thanks for stopping by for a blog visit! Missed ya!
Lovely old photograph which has the great advantage, shared by so many old photographs, of having so much background detail.
ReplyDeleteIf the first en third picture have been made from the same angle, hardly anything seems to have been changed. Which is remarkable after so many years. There is also a very nice car shown in the first one. But I wouldn't know what make it is.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fine old photo to have. When I've been back the house where I was boy all I could see was it as it used to be; my mind did not acknowledge the changes although there have been many over the years. Glad you included the more recent shots.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice to know that the house is being so well kept up.

Photos in the snow are challenging to take. I think Minnesota (and adjacent states too) get a lot of these high contrast snapshots. Is the barn still around?
ReplyDeleteNo, the barn was gone by the time I was little, and on a small lot it was hard to believe they had room for one.
DeleteAs a horse crazy kid, I could not understand why my mother did not want to go to the barn to see the horses. But the horses were there to do a job, unlike our horses now.
She looks well dressed to go sledging. Lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteLov the photo of your mother all wrapped up against the weather - also the clap board houses.
ReplyDeleteYou bet it's close to the Capitol! How wonderful, and such a treat to view how it originally looked. She's so cute too, and I sure know the excitement she had wanting to go into the barn! Also how dangerous it could be! Super post!
ReplyDeleteCute pic of your Mum with her sledge - Winter Street, how appropriate! The house looks as though it has been very well maintained and it's nice you have more recent photos too :-) Jo
ReplyDeleteLots of memories in that house. If walls could talk! Good to see it still standing and well kept.
ReplyDeleteI loved in Minneapolis for two winters, and two Minnesota were more than enough for me.
